Suspected Boko Haram insurgents abducted no fewer than 100 girls at the Senior Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, following a violent attack in the town. But the BBC quoted parents to have told it’s Hausa service that at least 200 girls were abducted.
Suspected kidnappers on Tuesday abducted two of the children of the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal. According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Austin Akubo, the three kidnappers gained entrance into the house through a broken down fence.
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos has arrested a set of identical twins for robbing a factory belonging to Reckitt Benckiser, producers of Dettol. Police authorities said the duo, Taiye and Kehinde Balogun, were welders and were hired by a robbery gang to break into the firm’s warehouse in May last year. The robbery gang, it was learnt, robbed the company of soap, noodles and chemicals worth N17m. Continue reading
The PDP headquarters at Wadata House in Wuse Zone 2 Abuja was gutted by fire around 8.15pm last night. A section of the building, which the party uses as its press center, was completely razed. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisah Metuh, confirmed the incident and said it was not sabotage, but electrical fault. He said the fire started from an air-conditioning unit in one of the cabins and had been put under control by men of the Federal Fire Service. “The PDP rules out any form of sabotage or attack and hereby wishes to inform all our members and teeming supporters that the fire has since been put under control,’’ Metuh said in a short statement.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has dismissed media reports that the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, has resigned his appointment and membership of the Federal Executive Council. The minister reportedly resigned from the FEC in order to pursue his governorship ambition in Rivers State.But the PDP in the state said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Monday that Wike was still in charge of the education ministry at the federal level.

The Board of Directors of Zenith Bank Plc yesterday announced the appointment of Peter Amangbo as the Managing Director designate. He is to replace Godwin Emefiele who has been appointed by the federal government as the new Central Bank governor. Mr. Emefiele was confirmed by the Senate last week which has made it imperative for Zenith Bank board to appoint a new Managing Director.
The bank board approved the appointment of Mr. Peter Amangbo as the Managing Director/CEO-designate of the bank effective June 1, 2014. Mr. Amangbo takes over from Mr. Godwin Emefiele who has been appointed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
