Beyonce’s father has responded to her new album Lemonade, but remained silent on claims it references her marriage to husband Jay Z.Mathew managed Beyonce in Destiny’s Child and was instrumental in making her a global superstar. But she parted ways professionally from him in 2011, shortly after he split from her mother Tina after 31 years of marriage.
Responding to her emotional visual album, and speculation that it sheds light on allegations Jay Z cheated on her, Mathew told SiriusXM: “There’s no way that we can get into the mind of Beyoncé.
“Only Beyoncé can answer who she specifically is talking to.I’d rather not get into speculation, so my answer is I don’t know. I can only speak of being a proud father.”
Asked about ongoing speculation by fans that the album is actually about him, Mathew said: “I’m 64 years old, do I really care what people say about me?”He continued: “I think Beyoncé pushed the envelope of creativity on this HBO specialI know the response you want to get. You’re not going to get that response.”Mathew is currently a music business lecturer at Texas Southern University.
In one track Beyonce sings: “You remind me of my father – a magician, able to exist in two places at once / In the tradition of men in my blood you come home at 3am and lie to me.What are you hiding? The past and the future merge to meet us here. What luck. What a f***ing curse.”There’s also a track tellingly entitled ‘Daddy Issues’.
Fans have speculated online that Beyonce is channelling her mother when she sings about cheating.
I honestly think Beyonce is channelling her Mum and how she was feeling through the cheating scandal with Mathew Knowles.
