Three pedestrians were reportedly killed on Wednesday in Adedero village, along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway by a hit-and-run driver.
The private car, whose details had yet to be ascertained, was reportedly being driven to Abeokuta, when the incident occurred. The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the victims were trekking by the roadside and were backing the traffic.
He said two of the victims died on the spot, while the remaining one died at a private hospital in Abeokuta, where he was rushed to by operatives of TRACE. It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle, who was said to be with his wife and children, had been trailed by traffic officers to Abeokuta, where he was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Akinbiyi said, “A fatal accident occurred this morning (Wednesday)in Adedero village, along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.
“It was a case of hit-and-run, during which the driver ran over three people trekking by the roadside. They were backing the traffic.
“Two of them died on the spot, while the third person died at a private hospital around Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, where he was rushed to by our operatives.
“Our operatives trailed the driver, who was travelling to Abeokuta with his wife and children. He was immediately arrested.
“The man has been handed over to men of the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force at Ibara.”Akinbiyi added that the remains of the victims, whose identities had yet to be ascertained, had been deposited in the mortuary at the state General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
